It is even more marveling when one realizes that we do have some next-gen technology tools that we interact with daily and here are some technologies that will define and shape innovations in the Augmented Reality and Extended Reality sector in 2022.

Advanced hardware

Headsets will become more compact and packed with more power than ever.

An example is a standalone VR headset by Meta codenamed Project Cambria to launch in 2022. Cambria will feature:

  • Eye-tracking and face tracking to drive avatars in social VR.

  • Multi-element pancake lenses to enable a more compact physique than any other Oculus headset.

  • High-resolution color passthrough for improved mixed reality experiences.

Augmented reality (AR) in cars

Cars will have AR-enabled heads up display (AR-HUD).

StradVision a US-based developer of AI-based vision processing technology, announced that it has teamed up with LG Electronics to develop an advanced cockpit 

Instrument platform for automobiles globally.

XR in Education

Virtual campuses are reinventing the learning experience in XR.

All virtual platforms allow remotely shared experiences, there are platforms specialized for creating “virtual campus” experiences.

AR is bringing new and valuable experiences to retail.

AR technologies allow customers to try on different products without having to get changed or even actually touch any products.

WebXR

The unity of the metaverse

WebXR provides access to virtual reality and augmented reality devices incompatible web browsers. It is a product of the Immersive Web.

In essence, WebXR or Immersive Web terms stand for virtual world experience hosted through the browser. No mobile apps are needed to experience AR.
